Standing Committees

Academic and Internal Affairs Committee Chaired by the Vice President The purpose of the Academic and Internal Affairs Committee, AIAC, is to serve as a liaison between the Student Body and the administration on matters dealing with academic courses, procedures, and policies; teacher quality and quantity; and related initiatives of the LBJ School. Responsibilities of the AIAC include, but are not limited to:
  • Providing an open forum for students to address concerns about life at the LBJ School.
  • Organizing and facilitating town hall meetings, forums, and/or guest speakers to address diversity policy issues on a national, state, and local level, and within the LBJ School.
  • Meeting with the Associate Dean for Academics and Research regularly to discuss academic matters and other matters of interest to the Student Body.
  • Coordinate the spring awards ceremony for the LBJ School faculty.
  • Serve as the student voice to the administration with regard to renovations or other matters of the LBJ School environment or facilities.
  Finance Committee  Chaired by the Internal and External Finance Directors The purpose of the finance committee is to coordinate the appropriations process, including the disbursal of funds.  Responsibilities of the Finance Committee include, but are not limited to:
  • Conducting the appropriations process three times per academic year.
  • Coordinating, on behalf of GPAC, all fundraising activities.
  • Maintaining a balance sheet for each account under the control of the committee.
  Outreach and Professional Development Committee Chaired by the Professional Development Director The purpose of the Outreach and Professional Development Committee (OPD) is to promote the positive image of the LBJ School while ensuring that current students are fully prepared to enter into their careers in public affairs.  Responsibilities of the Outreach and Professional Development Committee include, but are not limited to:
  • Fostering productive and mutually beneficial relationships with alumni, including alumni-student dinners, mentor-ships, brown bag speaker series, network-building, and participation in activities for admitted students.
  • Promote events on campus using LBJ Student listservs and other online means.
  • Organize and facilitate the informal brown bag speaker series, and solicit input from the Student Body on desired speakers and topics of discussion.
  • Coordinate, in collaboration with the Orientation Captains , the student organization and internship fair during orientation week.
  Student Life Committee Chaired by the Student Life Director The purpose of the Student Life Committee is to provide opportunities that contribute to the physical, mental, and emotional enrichment of the Student Body, faculty, and staff. Responsibilities of the Student Life Committee include, but are not limited to:
  • Coordinating social activities, consisting of, happy hours,  picnics, and arts and crafts.
  • Organizing events that promote the fitness and wellness of the Student Body, such as coordinating intramural sports, participating in public athletic events, facilitating stress-relieving activities, and hosting mental health awareness and service events.
  • Ensuring that events are reflective and inclusive of the Student Body diversity.
  Community Outreach Committee: Chaired by the Community Outreach Director The purpose of the Community Outreach Committee is to organize community service events and build relationships with community organizations.  Responsibilities of the Community Outreach Committee include:
  • Facilitate community service activities at which LBJ students volunteer their services for the betterment of the greater community.
  • Building relationships with community organizations who share common interests with the LBJ School such as professional organizations, non-profits, advocacy organizations, and political organizations.
